Lights Out Giants !

What a game.  What a frustrating incredibly awesome game.

In the end, Philip Rivers went all PHILIP RIVERRRS connecting with Vincent Fucking Jackson for the game winning TD to steal a win in NY 21-20.

The Chargers D put Emily Manning on his ass 5 times including two sacks by Shawne Merriman. Merriman is looking like the Shawne Merriman of old the past few games.

The offense still sputtered at times including Philip throwing an INT with 3:30 to go in the 4th quarter.  This looked like a back breaker for the Chargers.  But, the defense came up big stopping the Giants on 3rd and goal at the 9 to force a FG keeping the Bolts within one score.

Rivers did his magic driving the Chargers downfield for the go ahead TD in 1:36 leaving the Giants with 15 secs on the clock to find their own miracle.

Next up, we host the Eagles next Sunday at 1:15pm PST.

Bolts own the Raiders for the 13th straight time

Some of the Charger players have never seen a loss to the Raiders.  For the 6th year in a row we sweep the season series.  Although, this one was closer than it should’ve been.  There are a lot of good things to take away from this  game but before i get into that let me just say that Raider fans are the most delusional bunch of any team.  They still come out to the Q in masses and for what?  To see their team get pounced again and again.  All their fans can say is “show us a ring”.  I say show us a win.  The Raiders are a terrible team and I don’t see them getting better for years to come.

They may lose another 13 in a row to the Chargers. There’s a real good reason why this is the only home game of the year that beer sales are shutdown at the start of the 3rd quarter and you can only purchase one beer at a time.  The Raiders and their fans blow.

The Chargers came out and made a statement to start the game with a 53 yard bomb to Malcom Floyd then a six yard TD run from LT taking a direct snap in the Wildcat offense.  Two plays and a touchdown.

CHA-CHING !

The Bolts went on to score two more TD’s in the 1st half, a catch in the end zone by a wide open Vincent Jackson and another LT touchdown run from 10 yards out.  LT only had 18 carries for 56 yards but two of those carries were HUGE.  This offense is not going to be dependent on LT as much as they have in the past.  They’re pass offense is just too strong with so many targets for Rivers to throw the ball to.

Our defense had 5 sacks including two each for Merriman and Phillips.  The LB crew did their jobs today putting enough pressure on Jamarcus forcing him to make mistakes.  Cromartie got his first INT of the season.  FINALLY!  Dude where have you been?  Welcome back Cro !

Giving Malcom Floyd the start over Chris Chambers was a great move.  Floyd had two catches for 64 yards including the bomb from Rivers on the 1st play for the Chargers.  Chambers made a HUGE 20 yard catch on 3rd and 10 in the 4th quarter to extend a drive which led to a Nate Kaeding FG putting the Chargers ahead by 8 points again.

The Raiders and Jamarcus Russell were left with a little over 4 mins to play requiring a minor miracle to tie the game.  The Bolts held strong and shut down the Raiders on their final drive.

The Bolts are now 4-3 and two games back of the AFC West leading Broncos with Denver getting their asses handed to them by the Ravens in Baltimore 30-7.

The Chargers travel to NY next Sunday to play the Giants who have lost their last three games.  There couldn’t be a better time to mix it up with the G-men.

Chargers crush Chiefs 37-7

Just about everything went right for the Chargers at Arrowhead Stadium this  Sunday.   Rivers threw for 268 yards and 3 touchdowns.  LT rushed for 71 yards, his most in a game this season.    The defense had 4 sacks of Cassel along with 3 INT’s and Jacob Hester blocked a punt in the 4th quarter which he promptly scooped up in the end zone for a TD.

Although we came away with an important division win, not everything we did went right.

We still have problems with the offense stalling in the red zone.  On two occasions with the ball inside the 5 yard line we were unable to punch it in and had to settle for a Kaeding FG.  Norv seemed to be on a mission to give LT the ball to run it in for a score which he wasn’t able to do after at least 7 tries.

But the Lightning Bug, Darren Sproles made a nice catch and run for 58 yards and a TD midway thru the 3rd quarter.  That kid is good for at least one touchdown a game.

Fittingly, next up is the Raiders on Halloween weekend this Sunday at Qualcomm.  Jamarcus Russell was benched in the 2nd half of their game vs the Jets after another horrendous performance.   Their backup QB didn’t do much better in their 38-0 loss in Oakland.

Let’s hope the Bolts don’t look past this game.  Every division win is crucial.

Chargers Raiders

embarrassed at home on MNF

The O-line and D-line have been weak spots on this team but it was the special teams that hurt us bad giving up touchdowns on punt/kick  returns to Eddie Royal.

The first player in Bronco’s history to do this.

Congratulations Chargers.

Again our offense stalled in the red zone several times including their 1st drive.  Norv decided Sproles running the ball up the middle on 3rd and goal at the 2 yard line was a good idea.  Again it didn’t work for the umpteenth time and we had to settle for a field goal.

The defense did a pretty good job handling the run.  Unfortunately, they were only able to bank one sack.  Meanwhile, our O-line gave up 5 sacks.  If Rivers makes it thru this year healthy, it’ll be a minor miracle.

When will the Bolts play 4 entire quarters?  We scored 20 points in the 1st half and 3 points in the 2nd half.  That is not gonna get it done especially after gifting two TD’s on kick/punt returns.

Now we’re in a hole 3.5 games back of the 6-0 Broncos after only 6 weeks into the regular season.  This was a must win for the Chargers and they didn’t come through.

KC and Oakland played with a lot of heart this week beating the ‘Skins and Eagles respectively. Where is the Chargers heart?

We play KC and Oakland the next two weeks.  I guess we’ll find out.  Sadly, i think we already know.

Chargers vs Broncos on Monday Night Football

Broncos vs Chargers MNF

It’s only week 6 and the Bolts find themselves in a must win after their loss administered by the Steelers on SNF in week 4 and a week 5 bye.

The Broncos are off to a surprising 5-0 start with their last two wins coming against the Cowboys and Patriots.  Denver comes into Monday night’s game with swagger and confidence, something missing from the Chargers locker room.

Chargers vs Broncos

Before the start of the 2009 NFL season, the Bolts were huge favorites to steam roll the AFC West.  The fact is it’s the Chargers are getting steam rolled.

The bye week couldn’t have come at a better time.  Let’s hope Norv and Rivera came up with a good game plan.  Although the Bolts have had difficulty running the ball, expect more carries from LT.  He and the OL are the healthiest they’ve been since opening day with the exception of Nick Hardwick who’s out for the year.  Same goes for the Chargers defense.  They’re coming back this week healthy as ever and we should see Travis Johnson’s first action as a Charger after coming over from Houston just prior to the start of this season.

Getting the ball to Gates will be another key to our success.  Rivers is going to have a tough time beating Denver’s secondary.  Gates is off to a great start to the year with with 24 catches (19 for 1st downs), 349 yards and two TD’s.

We’re off to another terrible start but a win here could turn our season around with KC and Oakland up next on our schedule.  The Bolts are 5-1 against Denver in their last 6 meetings.  Chargers are 3.5 point favorites at home.

The Bolts and Donkeys will be sporting their 60’s AFL throwback uniforms.

Bolts limp into the Bye week 2-2

…after dropping a steaming pile on Heinz Field.

The defense never showed up gifting the Tools 38 points.  This included giving up 3 points on the last drive by Pittsburgh where a stop would’ve kept the Chargers within a TD on our final offensive possession.

We were unable to get the running game going after giving up two quick TD’s to Pittsburgh and had to give up on the run to play catch up through the air.

pathetic

The offense finally woke up at the end of the 3rd quarter to score its first points after being shutout in the first half. Rivers and crew made it a game though putting up 3 TD’s on offense.  Gates had two TD catches and Chambers caught one. Hester made a heads up play to put up a TD after swiping the ball from Pitt’s returner on a kickoff return.

Larry English did pick up the 1st sack of his career as a Charger.  Cro had two holding penalties including one on 3rd and long that gave the Tools a 1st down.  Cromartie is just one of several Chargers who have underperformed to this point of the season.

The Bolts have so much talent.  After getting through the preseason healthy our OL and DL have been decimated with injuries.  But that’s no excuse for the rest of the team.

Pittsburgh embarrassed the Bolts on National TV.  Let’s hope they can get it together and get back in the race for the AFC West division title.  For now we’re two games back of the 4-0 donkeys who we meet in our next game at home on MNF October 19th.

broncos62_65

It’s only week 5 with lots of football left.  Not time to panic yet but I will say the MNF game is a must win to get this team back on track.
